Online seminar of June 20th 2017
Speaker: Jan VAN HOECKE (RAVN Systems)
Important notice: The seminar will be presented in English. Questions can be asked in Dutch and French.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the up-and-coming technology that people fear will wipe out a number of sectors the coming decades. In the legal sector – law firms and activities in highly regulated industries – AI is not expected to replace the lawyer. Nevertheless AI will transform the sector profoundly in the coming 5 to 10 years. Experts see AI as a powerful machine that will allow lawyers to provide better services at a lower cost.
AI will impact both law firms and regulated industries (banking, insurance, pharma,…). International law firms currently are building, testing and launching their first generation AI services. This will change law firms’ pricing, profitability, size, recruitment policy and ability to win new business . The highly regulated industries will purchase new services and have different expectations.
Jan VAN HOECKE moved 6 years ago to the City and co-founded RAVN. This start-up develops software that automatically organises, discovers content from and extracts value from contracts using AI on certain legal issues. Jan is responsible for the product portfolio development and long-term technology vision for the company. He is also in charge of the development and research teams at RAVN, and leads the design and engineering of RAVN’s innovative products. RAVN has 45 employees, a turnover of over 5 million euros and provides services to a diversified clientele such as DLA Piper, BT, Taylor Wessing,…
